I first dreamt about sailing off on overnight trips on my own craft 34 years ago. Nine years ago investigation into 12 meter cats found me looking at many designs however realistically I could not afford the materials or kits let alone the commitment in build hours with farm, full time job and a family. The dream fizzled until in February 2010 when my new partner, Michelle, knowing I had a smoldering desire asked if there was a cheaper way to build than what I saw a few years ago. The next Multihull World magazine I picked up had an article by Peter Snell and here we are.

I found this photo on the 1st Beaumaris Sea Scout web site. The photo is labeled as unknown, but I recognise the guy on the front and I’m sure that’s me skippering back in around 1977. It’s in those days that I had the desire to sail off without the need to turn around and return to the beach where I had launched from. This was an Attunga 18 foot catamaran given to the Rover crew which we restored and had lots of fun sailing till it was smashed up on a beach after a capsize.
